Staying Visible! Black Lesbian Women Archives Matter, vol. I
Celebrate Life!
After many years of working with the archives of performing artists from the past, Oxana Chi has shifted her focus to her own archive, reflecting more than 33 years of artistic practice in Berlin and internationally. Her rich body of materials - ranging from diaries, newspaper articles, and book publications to posters, flyers, experimental dance films, dance theatre documentation, photographs, music, paintings, and costumes - forms the architectural framework of this project.
The old is brought into dialogue with the new. Unsorted, unperformed, and unpublished archival materials are presented and reactivated. Infused with new energy, Chi seeks to revive, "recycle", and rethink these materials in order to create a temporally fluid, autobiographical archive for a contemporary audience.
